You may have received a call from the ATO recently, or someone purporting to be calling on behalf of the ATO, asking you to confirm your identity with personal information such as your Tax File Number or driver’s licence number.

Remember, as our client, you don’t need to engage with the caller, that’s what we’re here for! You can simply refer the caller to Halletts as your tax agent, on 6257 5712.

While some may well be legitimate calls from the ATO or one of its debt collection agencies, some may be from scammers. Please feel free to pass the load to us, and we’re happy to act as your intermediary

Here at Halletts we’re taking the plunge of changing the phone and Internet provider for our Canberra office, which means that on the morning of Monday 3 September we will have a (hopefully) short period of downtime when you won’t be able to reach us. If your call doesn’t get through during this time, please feel free to ring our friendly Goulburn staff members on 02 4821 1833, or if you send an email we will receive it when we’re back on line.

Thank you for your patience!

Beware! Many Australian companies have fallen prey to scammers who have hacked a supplier’s email account, then sent an email to customers advising of a change in bank account details, or intercepting an invoice and changing the payment details on it before resending the email. In short, it’s worth checking by phone if any changes to payment details are legitimate, no matter who the email comes from!
